Woke up at 3am this morning. Haven't been sleeping all to well, I do have some sleeping aids from the doctors, (blood tests were fine, nothing wrong with me, apparently) but I don't want to get addicted to them. It's strange, I feel like I'm missing out on so much, didn't go to the Source meeting last night, even though I wanted to, felt too tired, thing is if I'm tiered why am I not sleeping? I just feel in limbo, really don't get it. Not having fun at the moment, just want to get off.
Weird Day
Had a University Open Day today, was a bit of a weird, all these new people walking around. Been feeling a bit under the weather last few weeks, been for blood tests on Friday, perhaps its something, don't really know, going to go see the quack on Tuesday, for results. Wish me luck.
On the work front, not really sure what to do, cant remember any of the hand in dates for the Audio stuff, I know their in February but I don't know when! Especially as they won't put it up on the Uni intranet, grr so annoying! I will ask on Monday, or when ever I get the chance.
Football and Telly Day
Interesting Day today, a days worth of lectures/seminars devoted to 'Footy and Telly'. In one word, 'not useful' OK thats two words. I don't see myself going in to TV, and especially not anything to do with Sport, but It was useful to other people so thats a OK. Im looking foward to the Cryslys guy coming down, he's head of one of the largest commercial radio companies in the UK, need to get his name and number.
On the plus side, got a job at the Cov Telegraph today, go me! Not paid mind, but its a start, now to get something for summer!

Scrachpad: 100AD - Perosnal Development Program
So, yet another 100AD, (PDP, Personal Development Program) lecture today, to be honest, I don't really see the point of it. I can appreciate the premise of it, decide were you want to go, and create a network of contacts, and develop a path toward the end goal. Now this is amazing idea, because a lot of people don't really know what they want to do at university. Also it allows you to grow as a person, wonderful. However, there is one problem, what if you know that you don't want to be doing what you are doing? Take me for example, I know that I do not want to be a journalist, I just feel that it is not me, too stressful, and not really suited to my talents. So the question as to be asked, what am I doing here? I would say, if pushed, that I am here to learn, academically, learn, not foster a career, as to be honest, I would not make it in there industry.
The skills that I am learning, will be useful, fact gathering, and other stuff like that, but most, the technical, knowledge will be most useful to me, as it is most mappable to the outside world.
The key question that keeps being asked is 'where are you' well I would say that I am on a road, I have no idea were it is going, nor where it will end, but I am learning as I walk.
Still I have to ask, "What's The point".
Positive Steps...
Scrachpad: 132MC - Broadcast Coursework Part ii
Been cracking on with the Broadcast Coursework, has actually been quite fun, been using Audacity to do it, basically a free version of Audition, which is what they teach in the Uni. Ok, my cuts are not that professional, but I can always ask about that. Layered up a basic 35 second piece in GarageBand, an Apple piece of software, All I have to do now, is record an opener, which I'm going to rend a Maranse out for, better quality sound and all that, at the same time, ill record my Voicer, and put that to some bed's that I'm going to make. Concering using a variant of the Source Radio news beds as I help put them together. (Didn't acutally do the recording, but came up with a few of the ideas).
Actually quite like the idea of this audio editing lark, will have to see were that goes....
I have An Admirer!
Scrachpad: 132MC - Broadcast Coursework Part i
As with 131MC, 132MC, is the more hands on module of the selection this year, I have in this module to actually produce end products, vox pox's, voicers etc. This in itself is not hard, and cupped with the Tech Skills module, will be very useful. Below, is a snippet of my voicer, based on this press release from Coventry City Council.
Now although this was hard, to create, the hardest part will be actually recording it, not in a physical sense, as I have radio voice experience, with Source Radio, but in a sense that It has to be far more professional, then on the student station. Once we have completed the skills to do this, I will be right in there, 'voicing it up"!
Coventry’s Lord Mayor. Dave Batten has started to New Year on a greener foot.
Every year the Council leases a car from Jaguar for civic events. This year the Mayor has been given the keys to a Jaguar XJ-2. It’s greener diesel engine, makes it the 'greenest' luxury car on the market according to a recent buyers survey. As in previously, the car carries the COV1 registration The current car, a Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign, has clocked up 13,000 miles taking the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayor’s to hundreds of functions across the city.
I'll post them when I've done them!
Scrachpad: 131MC - Reserch Coursework
131MC - Researching for Journalism, is one of the major pieces of course work that I will be dong this term. It involves a 2000 word article, on 'something unreported in the news', either a topic of event.
Ideas so far:
- Testimony on finding God
- Reflective, discussion on the nuances of Christianity , from a new believer's view.
- Report on the failings of the student radio station (Source Radio)
Of all of them, I think the reflective discussion has the most merit, and because of the structure of the idea, it requires a little research, reading the Bible etc, wich isn't really hard!
Lovely Night @ Nandos
Went to Nandos tonight, only Charli's and mines 3rd actual dates! Was amazing, saw someone who I didnt want to see, but it didnt ruin our night! Bit panicy about 131 and 132 but its all good I'm sorting it out tomrow!
Big smiles :)
Back to the Workstone
Well we have our major pieces of work for the term, they are:
- A 2000 word report, on something 'new' a article on a subject not reported a lot in the news.
- A bunch of skills tasks, a Vox Pox and a Voicer with a few others.
- Group Project
In a bit, I will post my starters orders for the projects, I'll use this place as a scratching pad.
Just awake
Posting from the Touch again, so as well as training the keyboard, I'm gettng some thoughts down on e paper.
Its late here and I cant sleep, Uni is going well, nice bunch of pepole, finally getting down to se tecky things wich is what I came here to learn. I do feel like I might fall a bit but at least there is no more essays to do, just articals. Group project looks good, but its a group and I'm never that good at them really. Always feel like I'm doing all the work.
They canceled my Advantage module last week as you might have seen so I'm not happy about that at all.
Washing tomrow running out of pants. Post more soon. Thanks for reading.
Start 2008 Off with a Bang!
Well in true Coventry Uni style, my 9:00 lecture has been canceled, for no reason!, Im in the library, doing 100MC work!
So, Back I go
Well I'm back to Uni again today, don't really want to go back, but suppose I better, first up: My advantage module: Law in the Workplace. W00T!
Home soon...
Going home tomorrow afternoon! I am looking forward to it. Will post pic's etc later :D
By the way YOU LOSE!!!!
New Year :)
So New year has been and gone, was very good, even with the cold car sleep'athon! No major issues, course work's now done, but in enough time to re work if needed. Back to Uni on Saturday or Sunday, depending on what time we get up! Grabbing a lift back with Charli's folks who live in Nuneaton so that is very useful, no ugly trains and the such like! Will be good to get back :) In other news, I will be moving home next term, more on that as the story develops....
